The beta runs on macOS 11 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel; AU, VST3 and a standalone app), on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit; VST3 and a standalone app) and on 64-bit Linux (VST3 and a standalone app). Use it in your DAW or as a standalone app. Jump to macOS, Windows or Linux, then activate.
The beta isn't signed by Apple or Microsoft yet, so macOS and Windows ask you to allow it once. That's expected. Each build is checked with pluginval before it goes out, and your key is personal.
macOS
1. Download
Use the macOS link from your invite email and save the .pkg file to Downloads.
2. Allow the installer
Double-click the .pkg. macOS will say it can't verify the developer. Click Done (or OK), then:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Security section. You'll see a line about Hexamorph being blocked.
- Click Open Anyway and confirm with your password or Touch ID.
- The installer opens. Click through it; it needs your admin password.
On older macOS versions you can also right-click the .pkg and choose Open. On macOS 15 and later that shortcut is gone, so use the steps above.
If the Open Anyway button doesn't appear, open Terminal (Applications → Utilities), paste this line and press Return, then double-click the .pkg again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/Hexamorph-*.pkg
3. Open it in your DAW
The installer puts the files here:
- AU:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Hexamorph.component - VST3:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Hexamorph.vst3 - App:
/Applications/Hexamorph.app
Restart your DAW, or rescan plugins. Hexamorph is listed under Fold Devices. In Logic it shows up after Logic validates it on the first start.
If the DAW doesn't see the plugin or says it's damaged, clear the quarantine flag on the installed files in Terminal and restart the DAW:
sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Hexamorph.component sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Hexamorph.vst3 sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Hexamorph.app
In Logic, if it still fails, open Logic Pro → Settings → Plug-in Manager, select Hexamorph and click Reset & Rescan Selection.
Windows
1. Download and unblock
Use the Windows link from your invite email and save the .zip. Before unpacking, right-click it → Properties, tick Unblock at the bottom and click OK. This stops Windows from blocking the files inside.
2. Copy the files
- Copy the
Hexamorph.vst3folder toC:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\(Windows asks for admin rights). - Put
Hexamorph.exe(the standalone app) anywhere you like, for example inC:\Program Files\Fold Devices\.
3. Open it
Rescan plugins in your DAW. Hexamorph is listed under Fold Devices. When you start Hexamorph.exe the first time, Windows SmartScreen may say it protected your PC: click More info → Run anyway.
Linux
1. Download and unpack
Use the Linux link from your invite email and unpack the .zip.
2. Copy the files
mkdir -p ~/.vst3 cp -r Hexamorph.vst3 ~/.vst3/ chmod +x Hexamorph # the standalone app; run it with ./Hexamorph
For all users, copy Hexamorph.vst3 to /usr/lib/vst3/ instead. Then rescan plugins in your DAW (Bitwig, Reaper, Ardour and others).
Standalone app
You don't need a DAW: Hexamorph also runs as its own app, with the same sound and features as the plugin. Start Hexamorph from Applications (macOS), Hexamorph.exe (Windows) or ./Hexamorph (Linux).
- Open the project menu (☰) → Audio / MIDI settings... and pick your audio interface, sample rate and buffer size. On Windows, choose ASIO as the device type for the lowest latency. Turn on the MIDI inputs of the controllers you want to play it with.
- Save your work with ☰ → Save / Save as.... The app reopens your last project on the next start and asks before quitting if something isn't saved.
- The app runs at its own tempo, set on the BPM display. It doesn't follow MIDI clock yet.
Bug reports from the app work the same way: ☰ → HELP → Report a bug...
Activate
- Open Hexamorph in your DAW or start the app.
- Click the red UNREGISTERED - ENTER KEY button in the status line, or open the project menu (☰) → HELP → Enter licence key...
- Paste the key from your email, or drop the attached
.keyfile on the window.
The key works offline and is stored once for every DAW on this computer. HELP → About Hexamorph... shows your name and when the key ends.
Without a valid key the plugin works fully but plays a short burst of noise every minute or so, in exports too. Your projects are never changed by this.
Updates and expiry
Beta builds and keys run for 45 days. Before that you'll get a new build and, if needed, a new key by email. Install the new build over the old one; your projects and settings stay.
Uninstall
Delete the files you installed (listed above for your system). Settings and your key live in a separate folder; delete it too if you want everything gone:
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Fold Devices/Hexamorph/ - Windows:
%APPDATA%\Fold Devices\Hexamorph\ - Linux:
~/.config/Fold Devices/Hexamorph/
