Hexamorph / Drum sampler

A drum sampler with a step sequencer that changes every hit

Hexamorph works as a 16-track drum sampler in your DAW: one-shots or sliced breaks, written in a step sequencer where every step can play its own sample, pitch and effect.

One sound per track, sixteen tracks

Drop a kick on track 1, a snare on track 2, hats on 3 and so on. Every track has its own step sequence of up to 128 steps, its own length and speed, its own filter, envelope, three LFOs and four insert effects.

  • Velocity, microtiming and retrigs on every step, for rolls, flams and ghost notes.
  • Trig conditions: probability, A:B and FILL keep a one-bar beat moving for a whole track.
  • 128 sample slots per project, shared by all tracks.

A different hit on every step

A parameter lock can change the sample itself. Lock slot 4 on step 5 and that one step plays a different hat; lock pitch and decay on the next and it becomes a ghost note. One track can play a whole set of variations without a second lane.

Kits from breaks and loops

Load a drum break and slice it to the grid or by transients, up to 64 slices. Play the slices in a new order from the sequencer, lock a slice per step, or resample your own beat into a recorder and chop that.

Mix in the plugin or in your DAW

  • Mixer page with level and two sends for all 16 tracks.
  • 16 stereo track outputs plus main and cue, so each drum can get its own DAW channel.
  • Sidechain compressor that listens to your DAW, and a master bus with a limiter.

Questions

Can Hexamorph be used as a drum sampler?

Yes. Load one-shots on up to 16 tracks, one sound per track, and write the beat in the step sequencer. Each step can play a different sample, pitch or filter setting through a parameter lock, so one track can carry a whole set of hats or percussion hits.

Does it work in Ableton Live, Logic and FL Studio?

It is a VST3 instrument for macOS, Windows and Linux (and AU on macOS), so it runs in any DAW that hosts those formats, such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Bitwig Studio, Reaper or FL Studio. It follows the DAW's tempo and transport.

Can I send each drum to its own mixer channel?

Yes. Besides the main and cue outputs there is a stereo output for each of the 16 tracks, so kick, snare and hats can each get their own channel in the DAW.

Can I make a kit out of a drum break?

Yes. Slice the break to the grid or by transients, up to 64 slices, then play the slices from the sequencer or lock a different slice on each step.

Try it in your own DAW.
